Palkonya welcomes you on the occasion of the Cultural Village of Europe 2007!
It is a great honour for us that Palkonya won the title of the Cultural Village of Europe for the year 2007. This small Hungarian village was one of the founders of the Cultural Village of Europe-movement in 1999, that started its blooming life in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. Twelve European villages – from the Netherlands, Greece, Estonia,England, Danmark, Austria, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, the Chech Republic and Hungary – keep up sparkling cultural and friendly relations with each other. The movement’s main purpose is to lay an emphasis on the importance of village life, protect its values, introduce and foster its cultural life. Palkonya is the smallest of all 12, founder villages.
Each year, since 1999 one village invites the inhabitants of the other eleven villages, just like Palkonya does it in 2007. The flow of programmes will start on the day of the Open Cellars of Whitsun Festival (May 27), from this date on each month two partner-villages introduce themselves. The programmes will last until October. Thanks for all our supporters’ help, and special thanks for the devoted work of Palkonya’s inhabitants.
Visit our programmes and make yourself at home in our village! Experience Palkonya’s special, enchanting atmosphere, the villagers’ famous hospitality and do not forget to taste its fiery red wines.
